The Cuddle Quilt
I learned recently that one of my colleague (J) and his wife (M) have been dealing with her breast cancer ... it's been a long journey and she's doing great right now after a little bit of a scare. Given John and my history with cancer and our positive outcomes, I wanted to do something to put a little sunshine in their day.
These scrap strips have been hanging in the closet for about a year -- blogged here last January ...
So I decided to give it a whirl. I saw this cute block a couple of weeks ago which was my inspiration.
I'm making a quilt for a couple, but I've never seen their home, so I felt this was a nice neutral way to prepare a quilt with a neutral background multiple colors in the strips.
The back is a mix of a bunch of colors ;-).
I am happy with how this came out ... M is big in to paddle boarding ... and the colors on the front reminded me of the beach -- both colors from the sand, water and sky.
It's a cuddle quilt ... for them and their tween girls to relax and enjoy a good movie.
The plan is to give it to him tomorrow.
Today is a reminder of why these things are important ... my friend L called me 16 months ago, ecstatic that she had qualified for the Boston Marathon in 2013 ... it seemed a life time away. Today, when I heard the news, I wasn't worried, L was one of 26,000 runners, the odds were too low that she could have been there. Then I looked her time up on the internet this afternoon 4:09:11 ... she crossed the finish line 36 seconds before the bomb blast. She is ok ... I had to speak with her tonight to make sure ... but she really is ok.
Life is too short ... I am thrilled that L is OK and that I have something to share with J and M tomorrow to let them know that someone else cares ...
Hope you're having a good week -- thoughts across America go out for those families in Boston today that have suffered so much.
All the best
Lisa
