Have been fiddling with chevrons over the past month ...
I love how something so simple ... can be so vibrant ...
This one was my first ... pieced all the sashing individually -- boy that took a long time ... but am pretty pleased with how well I was able to match all the seams despite all the piecing.

Horizontal Chevrons |
With the second one ... I sewed the sashing to the strip before I cut the chevrons. That meant that I had to flip the chevrons 90 degrees which made a wider quilt. But it also came together a heck of a lot quicker. I need to figure out how to adjust my template so I can flip them back 90 degrees. The piece at the top of the quilt top is odds and ends left over which I will use on the back.

Vertical Chevrons |
Every day I am surprised at how little I know about the process of quilting ... self taught with no quilting friends (outside of the internet) ... means I probably take 2X the time to pull together a quilt top than those of you who actually know what you're doing ;-).
But I do enjoy the process of learning how ... this past week I saw a :30 minute show on PBS about quilting flying geese ... it was a little boring ... but wow ... who knew that they were so easy to make? And how simple it was to make them the same size so that they line up ...

Flying Geese with white space |
I made the quilt above, not knowing how to make the flying geese the same size ... which meant they didn't line up well ... hence I used white space to hide my challenges ... it worked, and I'm happy with how it came out ... but I continue to learn everyday ... and that's what keeps me coming back.
I'm curious ... how did you learn to quilt?
All the best,
Lisa
