New Pattern Launch -- Connected Squares

Yay!  Super excited to announce the second quilt in my mid-century modern quilt line—Connected Squares—has launched!

You can purchase it HERE !!!

Important to note:  Connected Squares is written specifically for beginning or novice quilters with lots of TIPs and detailed instructions for a PLAYMAT, THROW AND QUEEN size quilt.  PLUS instructions on how to easily make the scrappy versions.  If you're new to quilting and looking for your next step beyond patchwork, this is a great beginner quilt with NO seams to match.  That also means it is a versatile and quick pull together for the more experienced quilter!

My first and second quilts (blogged here) were both a version of "Plain Spoken" from the book The Modern Quilt Workshop.  Funny, when I look back at those first quilts and what attracted me to the design—simple lines and basic colors—I see I was leaning toward the mid-century modern aesthetic even back then!

It is often debated whether the Mid-century Modern style grew out of the German Bauhaus or Art Deco styles.  Whatever it's underpinnings, the style consists of a classic, understated look with clean lines and minimal fuss.

In its simplest form—Connected Squares meets the essential elements of mid-century modern.
  • —Minimal ornamentation
  • —Form follows function
  • —Uncluttered, sleek lines with both organic and geometric shapes
  • —Mixing different, and sometimes contrasting, materials
The inspiration for the pattern is the trellis often found in gardens and carports when I was growing up.

What I learned with this pattern is that even though it was designed on a simple, two-color palette, it comes to life in so many other ways.

SCRAPPY PLAYMAT
SCRAPPY THROW
And if I hadn't added enough variation with the scrappy versions, there were 7 quilt testers that were incredibly generous with their time, feedback and creativity and were great at truly showing the versatility and fun that can be had with this quilt.

Thanks & have a great weekend!

All the best,
Lisa
