Giveaway ... in exchange for your opinion!

Enter now for a chance to win 3 Fat Quarters cut from any of the fabrics in the photo below ...
    You choose!
Here's the deal ... several weeks ago, when I started on the Patriotic quilt, I asked my husband for his opinion on the 6 blocks I had made.  Asking him which ones he like best?  To be honest, his answer kind of surprised me, as I had automatically assumed that his favorites would be my favorites.  That wasn't the case.  In fact, his least favorite, was my favorite ...

How could that be?

Up until that day, I really had not appreciated how much different people see different things things through different filters ... a real eye opener.

So ... as I seek to evolve as a quilter, I started thinking about how I could ask the quilting community for their opinion.  I took individual photos of all of the blocks for this quilt.
And created a Mosaic on Flicker which can be found HERE.

So in exchange for your opinion ... I am going to giveaway 3 Fat Quarters from fabric in the photo at the top of this posting.  How do you enter?

You can get up to 3 chances to win:
  1. Leave me one message on this blog post
  2. Then head over to my Mosaic on Flickr and tell me which block you like the BEST -- and why
  3. Also on my Mosaic on Flickr and tell me which block  you like LEAST -- and why
To reduce the complexity, you can leave messages for #2 and #3 either here on my blog or on my Flickr Mosaic (either will count).  And make sure you're email is available to me for the blog posts!

I will randomly draw the winner from all entries on Monday, February 21.  I am a relatively low-read blog ... so chances are pretty good you can win on this!

I am really interested in your perspectives and opinions ... no worries about offending me ... I have MOST and LEAST favorite blocks on this one as well!

Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts and good luck in the drawing!  Thanks for playing!

Update:  And I am having SO MUCH FUN reading all the comments ... thank you ... thank you ... thank you!

All the best
Lisa

  1. Preferences are so personal aren't they??
I shall be interested to see the answers to your questions - I hope you will post them!

  2. My most favourite is 4 - it's red, the contrast is good and I like the dark centre

    ReplyDelete
  3. My least favourite is 19 - I don't like the inner white 'round'

  4. I totally agree with you and am constantly surprised by flickr not liking the same things as me - I will post a pic of literally the coolest block in the world and one or two people will stop by and say "that's nice" or some such totally anodyne comment and then I post something I think is a bit blah (like my orange spiral which I wasn't too keen on) and everyone says "yay you" and I think "what?" Do I choose the three fabrics here and now or can I choose if I win because at the moment, I;m struggling to choose between them - OK no I've chosen, I like the brown and white circles, the brown flowers and the dusky blue flowers.

  5. The whole quilt is awesome - I love stars! I did leave two comments on your flickr page - this is the third :)
    Thanks!

  6. That was a toughie! I think this quilt is awesome and it's so great of you to make it for such a great cause. I'm sure it will raise a lot of money!

  7. What a great idea! I'll head over to flickr now and see what I see....

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm so curious to hear the results - I'm going to have to check back on your mosaic to see. It's also interesting how hard it was to put words to why I liked the ones I did.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think #10 is my favorite - it stands out to me, and I love the way the stars look overlapped. I also think it appeals to me because the square in the middle isn't so obvious.... so "square".... does that make sense?

    ReplyDelete
  10. And #24 is my least favorite - probably because of the lack of contrast. It just kind of disappears when viewed as an individual block.

  11. Hi - I left block comments on your flickr mosaic (I'm Dogs Eat Yarn). It is fascinating to read everyone's comments & then look at their most and least favorites & consider why. Thanks for asking this question because it's so rare we get to see things through each others' eyes with reasons!

  12. Very nice quilt & it's wonderful of you to make it for donating.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I like #12 best. The colors work so well together & it just really stands out as a pretty block.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I like #23 the least. It really was hard to pick a least favorite, because all of your blocks really are quite pretty. I guess I picked that because it's all one color.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It will be fun to see what people like and don't! But I just love how all of them work together whether we like them individually or not!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Interesting challenge! I will come right out and say that I love the whole, regardless of the individual blocks!

    ReplyDelete
  17. My favorite is #7. I love the stripey center.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think #23 may be my least favorite. The single solid blue star among so many other variations is a little jarring.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I've been loving watching the progression of this quilt, perhaps it's because we're a military family (DH is in the Air Force). Can't wait to see the final results.

    ReplyDelete
  20. My favorite is #10. I was surprised because in the mosaic I gravitated to some of the others but in the individual photos I just kept coming back to this one. I like how the red looks like it is peeking out from behind the blue.

    ReplyDelete
  21. My least favorites are #19 and #23. Sorry I couldn't name just one. In #19, I don't like the center. It's the only block where you did that so it doesn't seem to fit. And #23, I'm not a fan of the all blue star. It looks bland, like it's missing something.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I like 7 the best; the layout and color scheme are aesthetically pleasing.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I hate to hate, but perhaps the one that speaks the least to me is 5. It's just a little loud.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hope you keep a tally and share with us the most popular favorite and least favorite! Curious to see...

    ReplyDelete
  25. my FAVORITE is #26. I LOVE it! The colors, the fabrics, the shape. It's retro looking. It's perfection!

    ReplyDelete
  26. my least favorite is #22 & #24. not because they are bad, but because with the dark center and the white print with the white background, they just don't stand out enough for me. But they still are nice stars.

(and I saw how some aren't caring for the white centered block! I know that is one of your favorites, right? I love that one too. i think it's neat throwing one of those in the mix as with throwing a solid star in there too. This quilt turned out fantastic and what a great auction item!)

  27. You are very right about preferences. I have found this especially true in doing swaps. It's so challenging to make something to match someone else's taste rather than my own. Although it's been fun, I realized I most enjoy quilting and sewing when I can make a project just because I personally enjoy the outcome rather than trying to please someone else.

  28. I probably wouldn't buy any of the fat quarters you are giving away, because they don't really speak to me as a group. The brown with the large circles is interesting and the one that looks like peacock feathers is okay. However, I've often seen gorgeous quilts made from fabrics that I would have never thought to choose.

  29. I have already commented on Flickr. The finished quilt is beautiful. Favorites are always so subjective, and that is part of the beauty of art.

    ReplyDelete
  30. This star quilt is going to be awesome when finished. I love any of the fabrics you are giving away.

    ReplyDelete
  31. My favorite block is #5 and also #18. I love how they radiate the red and blue and Central Park.

    ReplyDelete
  32. My least favorite block is #27. It just lacks a little contrast IMO. All together, the quilt is wonderful. You have done a great job.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Least favourite is no 18 - too dark when compared to the rest, all of which I like with no clear winner!
I should add though that I am viewing this on a small laptop in a hotel room on low battery so I haven't given it a tremendous look!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks for asking for opinions - I often do that on my blog but never thought of mixing it with a giveaway - very creative.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Very interesting way to do a giveaway! I wonder if at the end their will be one strong winner?

    ReplyDelete
  36. My favorite is #9. I like that the reds have enough contrast so that you can tell they are not the same but yet work well together. I like the fabric used in the rays - looks the the star is twinkling.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hard to choose one not to like....#27 - the fabrics seem to me to be to busy for each other but I like them both individually. An interesting contest!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ha, so funny :) I'll go check and let you know there.

I want the chocolate circles, BTW :)))) Want them baaaaad :))

    ReplyDelete
  39. What a great idea to ask the community for their input.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think I like number 6 because of the polka dots and number 8 because I like different blues. I know that is 2 but it is hard to choose.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think the one I like the least is 23. As much as I like blue I think this one (on its own) is too much. There is not alot of interest going on.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love Red, White, & Blue quilts! It is on my "Will make one some day" list.

    ReplyDelete
  43. OOPS! Typo....favorite is # 15. Least favorite is # 6, only because I'm not big into dots or spots.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh, it didn't take my favorite post. I like #15, because it is so BOLD, as I think anything patriotic should be.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I have the same problem with my quilts. I see the details not the overall quilt. So I get stuck obsessing over combos I don't like or don't let myself be as creative as I could because I stick with only "pretty" combinations. Other people's quilts I can see the big picture, I just wish I could get there with my own!

    ReplyDelete
  46. oh, fantastic fabric prize - great way to get input!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Great bribe for our thoughts!! I'll go check out the blocks and let you know what I think. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ok, I'm back. That was tough!

My favourite block is #26. I like that you used 3 different prints, but all red & white. And I think that the varying scales of the prints really complement one another well. (And I really love dots!)

    ReplyDelete
  49. My least favourite is actually a bit of a toss up. I think #7 is a lovely block, but in the context of the whole quilt, the colour seems wrong. It's too turquoise for the rest of the blocks.

I also think that #17 has too much contrast between the dark centre print and the light print that you used for the points. Contrast is generally a good thing in block designs, but here I just think it's a bit too much.

    I hope this is helpful!

  50. What a great idea - its so interesting to see everyone's views and how everyone has different favourites.

    ReplyDelete
  51. 21 is my favourite - I love the simple white centre square

    ReplyDelete
  52. 27 is my least favourite as it doesn't have as much contrast

    ReplyDelete
  53. great idea asking for our faves and least faves
and I have to say that Lynne is totally right, flickr is sometimes stunning, one of the quilts I made got some of the most comments and I don't really like it
so you never know, tastes are so very personal

ok, now to my choice of fabrics: the brown with the white circles, the blue with the tiny flowers and the "eyes" fabric in brown
