Crushed ...

Note:   Thanks everyone ... the 2nd wash helped a little ... looks like one of the materials has the same fibers in it as the color catcher ... as it caught the red and turned it pink.  I will post some separate pics of what happened.  John thinks it will be ok ... would value everyone elses thoughts.

Well ... at least I got a couple of photos taken before I washed it ...

Here's the color catchers ...
The one on the right is unused
Unfortunately ... the color catchers did not catch all the color ... the quilt is now going through another wash ... but based on what I saw a few minutes ago ... I suspect that I won't be able to send it to the silent auction ...

I guess the good news is that I allowed extra time ... the silent auction isn't until April and my plan was to finish before the end of February ...

Painful way to learn a valuable lesson ...

  2. Oh NO!! I sort of wished you would have taken a picture after the wash. Just curious. I'm so surprised this happened! Especially b/c mine was so similar and i had no issues. I didn't even use "quality quilt shop" fabrics in mine. All were from Joann's so I was pretty scared washing.

I'm so sorry Lisa! Hopefully another wash will take care of it! Try washing on the full load setting but only the quilt in it.

  3. Oh, Lisa! You know, in my Yahoo Stashbusters group, this very conversation has come up time and time again. I believe some tried washing with Lestoil. Others reported prewashing fabric, and STILL experiencing bleeding. I will see if I can find some more of those comments. Or, you are always welcome to come on over and join, too!

  4. Ouch! I love star quilts and I'm sad to think of one with color leakage. Sad, sad, sad. Good luck with the next wash. This quilt beautiful and I bet it still looks great even if all the color doesn't come out.
